All :Hallows Eve + Saints Day:

I wanted to create a piece to commemorate All Hallows' Eve and All Saints' Day, this is one illustration of a short story I wrote a little while back.

It is about a woman who is walking through a graveyard as the sun is setting. She walks to a grave and places her hand upon the ground. Her appearance and the setting change, all that remains of the original woman are her golden eyes. When the transformation is complete she is a woman standing on the prow of a boat on the brink of throwing herself into the waters below. She takes one look back at the horrified crowd and flings herself into the water. As she is drowning the story snaps back to the original woman in the graveyard who is smiling. She moves on to the death of another woman and then another, all the while moving closer to a crucifix gravestone beneath a willow tree. When she at last reaches the gravestone (which is seen to be blank) she is still smiling but crying, and as she stumbles she sees a smaller stone set on the other side of the tree. She approaches it and then draws back, but, crying, places her hand on the ground.

As before, the scene transforms, but this time she is a man holding a pistol. She looks up from this guise and sees ... herself. The man is crying and arguing with her. He accuses her of lying to him, that she is dying and she never told him. He shoots her. He then shoots himself. When she returns to the graveyard she is shocked and tears fall from her eyes, but her expression is peaceful. She turns once more to the grave beneath the willow tree and approaches it. She falls upon the grave and confronts her corpse. As she does, wings of white form above her. She smiles, places her hand on the stone, and disappears. The last shot is of the crucifix, now containing a final eulogy :

If truth is love, then lies are hate, but hate is lovely too.
