These are some of the more recent images from the Ryder experiments (although there are quite a few that were completed after these). I started going a little further in the method with these. The next step in the Ryder style is to counteract the straight-line envelope by creating a form of gestural drawing consisting of strong figure curves drawn from the posture. The top two sketches display these gestures in red. The lines are to guide the addition of curves to the main lines, curves derived not from the reference but from the newly created figure.

I turned my reference material towards the dance genre as the images were wonderfully dynamic and readily available. Hip-hop and B-Boy (breakdance) styles wear a lot of baggy clothing which disfigures the form, but the Contemporary and Ballet costumes leave the figure intact. As I find both styles of dance exquisite in their own I used both and overlooked the hidden form. I am also trying to train myself to capture the fluidity of dance as I am planning to create a branding for a friend's dance team. They are known as FUSION (they combine many styles of dance) and recently made their debut. I want to get a logo, poster, and perhaps t-shirt design prepared for them (once I am contact with their publicity manager).

The freeze, number 17, I considered presenting separately as it is one of a few occasions when I felt I was being as true as possible to the Ryder method. Every line is defined by previously created line or point, the image completely relies upon itself. It feels more cleanly defined and less ambiguous than some of the earlier sketches.

The references for these are all documented next to the image. If an interest is shown in the references, I may include links to the files as a post-comment section (below) in this and future deviations.

These poses definitely have a lot of life to them, and I agree that 17 is superb. I'd love to see more of these, especially when you start using them in pieces. I really love the silhouette look.
