OIL ... and Third for 5

This is the second of the two value only studies (the first being : OIL Second ...) for the oil painting class (we started temperature this week).

The proportions are a bit better on this one, and the tones have been much more diversely developed. The negative space of the hipline kept being troublesome, and I eventually increased it to slim the figure to the right size, but never altered her left (our right) shoulder. I really like the value range that has been developed on the torso and breasts (perhaps the face though the cheek is not so good), but the drapery and thigh need a lot of work.

Tools :
1. Gamblin Oil Pigments (Burnt Sienna, Titanium White)
2. 16" by 24" canvas paper
3. brushes, round and flat. 1/4" to 1"
4. Linseed oil + Gamsol medium

This is looking pretty good. I think your tonal pattern is working well for you. A little more care with your underlying drawing would help you. Some of the proportions are a bit off (arms feel shortfor example).
In terms of tone the only thing that stands out as a problem when i squint at this is the top of the thigh. I think the lighter tone on the knee side of the hand ought to carry over to the other section of the thigh to some extent.
