...+HITSUZEN of crimson light

Well, this is a piece that has spent certainly a long time in creation. As I was digging through my old portfolios, I discovered a number of sketches (many of which I shall be submitting in my ~ziekdog42 account). This one in particular caught my eye, it was unfinished, and had always carried great promise, so I decided to finish it. I re designed the greater intricacies of her dress, and added some various effects. Some line weight was included (though I neglected to ink anything … ) and various shading styles were toyed with. I decided on reverting to hand drawn tonality, as it was something I had little experience with, but whose end result I greatly enjoyed. I later determined that I would overlay digital color upon the sketch. The prior tones were a great help, as I did not have to individual shade every base color. I chose a red-violet color scheme, and lowered the saturation for a more aged feel.

The dress itself is one of my favorite creations and (aside from the huge ribbons) I believe that it could actually be physically formed. I am especially proud of the base of the skirt, the cravated lining is something I hope to use again. This is also the source of the style of overlaying ribbons and bows (the ring of pink fabric) that I have employed in many gothic dress designs. The lace was added for depth and balance, although as an after thought it doesn’t work particularly well.
